French American School of Chicago, A Bilingual and Bicultural School



The French American School, Chicago is the erstwhile School which established in 1981, within the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School (ALES).  This French School in Chicago is educationally and socially beneficial as it runs with the collaboration of EFAC, LPHS and ALES.  It teaches the language and culture of both America and France.

EFAC offers the scholastic curriculum of the French Ministry of National Education. The curriculum is integrated with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system. This French School Chicago allows admission of students with backgrounds of all cultures, nationalities and religions.  Students are supposed to be fluent in French, corresponding to their respective grade level. But, such fluency is not required in English because the CPS system makes students perfect in English.



Admission Criteria

The following are the criteria for getting entrance into the EFAC program
●        The parents must be residing within the neighborhood boundary of the school. The name of the child must have been registered with ALE or ALPS. The school is located at the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
●        An interview with the Director (Students) of EFAC for assessing his/her proficiency in French.
●        Availability of seats in the particular grade.
EFAC is a French american school that has facilities for the following grades of schools

1.       Kindergarten
Children join Kindergarten class, just before a year of mandatory education at the age of six. By perfecting their language skills, children learn the basics of writing, math and other areas of Learning in French in Chicago. Children have already learnt to speak their language at home. They are taught language of France for two hours daily, for the entire 5 days a week. They learn English at the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. They learn to read and write through creative and playful activities like games, songs, art and craft.

2.       Elementary School
This covers grade 1 through grade 5 and follow the full American curriculum.  In one Section, students learn French, three hour a day, for five days a week. Students study science in the US section and other subjects from both programs.

3.       Middle School
Students learn specialized subjects like French Language, Literature, Civics, Geography and History. They also take part in cultural and artistic projects by collaborating with other schools around the world. They are enrolled with the National Center for Distance Learning (CNED) and study a common Middle school class and another class for specific grade level for ten hours per week.

4.       High School
Lincoln Park High School is one of the most popular French Schools in Chicago. As the French class is integrated into the French curriculum in Chicago, students join theclass, once a day. For getting admission to the EFAC curriculum, students are required to submit a transcript from an educational institution in the same system and to have an interview with the Director. They can prepare for exams like SATII in Advanced Placement and International and Baccalaureate.
